Historical Background...
The early history of this company is unique.
David H. Stringer's two-part history published 2014 in "Airways Magazine" offers comprehensive detail, but in a nutshell:
Canadian Colonial Airways was associated with Aviation Corporation - AVCO - which consolidated many small airlines into American Airways, later American Airlines.
The international nature of CCA's operations led to relative independence from the full-American Airways amalgamation.
The company held several subidiaries including Montreal-based, Canadian Colonial Airways, ltd. which facilitated it's trans-border operations including Canadian owership regulations and apportionment of revenue.
American Airlines continued to provide operational support during the 1930s.
Changes to Canadian ownership regulations and US Foreign Air Maill contracts led to a change in CCA ownership at the parent company.
Canadian Colonial Airways was rebranded Colonial Airlines April 30, 1942.
From a passenger perspective there was no appreciable difference between the US and Canadian companies in day-to-day opereations.
System timetables were produced by both entities. AirTimes classifies timetables produced by Canadian Colonial Airways, Ltd, as Class 1B - Regional system timetables, and can be indentified as 'printed in Canada' on the rear cover.
